Once Gretchen was settled in her new home, I decided to make a sculpture to celebrate Kansas City being one of the host locations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. I began designing a piece that reflects my love for this city and how proud I am that we absolutely shined on the world stage!

The sculpture is over 6 feet tall and features a roughly 2 1/2-foot soccer ball perched atop a 4-foot column with the Kansas City fountain logo design repeated twice. The column sits in a base tiled in red with gold lettering that reads, “Welcome to Kansas City” on one side and “The City of Fountains” on the other. The three main colors of the piece - red, blue, and green - represent the colors of the three host countries for the 2026 World Cup (Canada, USA, and Mexico). The red and gold base and the gold “crown” at the top of the column are also nods to local sports teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals.
